Area 51's first store opened in the great year of 2000, replacing a vacated pharmacy business on the prominent corner of Cuba & Dixon Streets in Wellington City.
The store set out to have an emphasis on quality street wear, stocking key local and international brands which include denim, apparel, footwear and accessories.
Area 51's store and design fit out is simple, with clean uncluttered lines with the product being the highlight in a boutique type environment.
As well as stocking some of the best international brands Area 51 has always proudly supported and carries some of New Zealand's finest. With the innovation, creativeness, originality and passion, it is easy to see why our mix includes so many talented NZ designers and brands.
There are currently three Area 51 stores in New Zealand. The first one, in Wellington City has been trading since August 2000. The second store is located in the central city of Auckland and opened in the year of 2004. The third & newest "flagship" store just recently opened (September 2009) in the Hayes Foundry development in Newmarket, Auckland.
Wellington is also home to Stable, our divine boutique space at 32 Cuba Street, just a short walking distance from the Area 51 store. Here you will find some brands worthy of this dedicated space, including the latest collections of Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion, handbags, accessories, watches and sunglasses.
Area 51 with its constantly evolving product mix captures a very broad demographic and clientele. A locally owned business, we hope people of all ages, backgrounds and style will find their favourite brands in our store and enjoy the experience.
