Catch up with Commoners_Alike

We headed up to see the Jae at Commoners_Alike today to view the Spring Summer 2012 collection, chow down on some snacks and have a general hang out.

Not only is the Commoners_Alike range getting better and better every season, but local label is also gaining an international following with Orlando Bloom shopping up a storm on Commoners_Alike at our Wellington store earlier in the week.

Heres a few images of their showroom space, pretty great afternoon had by our buying team today.

Behind the scenes - Area 51 Online.

Our team down in Wellington have been busy prepping our new stock to get up online, mostly we use images provided to us from our suppliers, its easier this way to get all the amazing products up quickly for you to purchase - but every now and then we roll up our sleeves and do a little photography ourselves.

Recently Liv and the team shot the new Standard Issue delivery so we thought we would share a few backstage/outtakes from the day!

Boxed into our recent AW delivery of Carhartt was the 6th Edition of the brandbook for this Fall/Winter.

Readers are given an intimate insight into the brands latest media campaign, featuring the work of photographer Alexander Basile. The history section focuses on the emergance of the work wear trend in fashion in the 1990's - one of the most influential periods for Carhartt as a brand today - with exclusive photo material by legendary hip hop chronicler Ernie Paniccioli. Introducing ...

Richard Wiles!

Campbell from Area 51 (aka the big boss man, left) pictured with friend and architect Richard Wiles. Richard, originally from the UK has spent the last decade here in New Zealand putting his creative skills to good use in a range of projects and positions. He was appointed and responsible for the design, re branding and re fits to the 3 AREA 51 stores. Last year saw him undertake the big project of a full refit to the long standing AREA 51 Wellington store. Always improving in his design, we were delighted with the end result which was a fresh, modern and exciting transformation to the store.

Richard moves to Melbourne at the end of this month for a change of scene and to take on new challenges. He and his partner are also expecting their first child in the coming weeks so we wish them all the best!

Thanks for your efforts Rich and the hard work on our projects, we will keep in touch.

And for those of you in Melbourne hit him up, he does some great work and good for a giggle on the side those English folk!

Winter in Wellington

Peter works in our Wellington store, we asked him to show us his must haves for winter and tell us a little bit about the cold season in blusterly old Welly. . .

Nudie Grim Tim Dry Open Selvage "Selvage denim is my favourite to wear, its tough durablity means it looks fresh on, and holds its shape, Grim Tims are a nice slim but not to skinny style, turn them up at the bottom, show a little selvage"

Herschel Camo Cordura "It practically fit everything from my laptop to my lunchbox"

Huffer Boris Shirt Stone Wash and Fred Perry Quilted Gilet "Pretty much the perfect combo for the windy streets of Wellington, you have to keep your core warm!!"

Worst welly winter moment? "misguided judgement of the elements outside, Wellington often looks sunny and warm throught the comfort of a glass window but on the other side it is bitterly chilly fresh, however it means I get to pull out my winter jackets and jumpers and layer it up, thats the best part about winter you can play around with garments and layering much more"

Each season we bring you a special sass & bide jacket for the winter season, we pick out the best of the best from their ranges (although its all amazing) and deliver you the ultimate must haves.

This season we choose two jackets from 'Seekerstate' to deliver to you. Both beautiful, both classic and both stores only have 1 of each!
